Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, says the government will not pay for travel expenses of Ghana Football Association Executive Council members for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

He made the clarification in an interview with Asempa FM, explaining that public funds will only be used for key officials directly involved in team management.

“The government will not fund the travel of Executive Council members of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) ahead of the World Cup," he said.

Adams added that essential figures, including GFA President Kurt Okraku, General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo, and members of the Management Committee, will be catered for.

“However, the General Secretary [Prosper Harrison Addo], the president of the GFA [Kurt Okraku], and Management Committee members will be taken care of, but the government will not fund the trips of any Executive Council members because you cannot head into the tournament, especially the president of the GFA," he added.

Ghana, four-time African champions, will compete in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama as they prepare for their fifth appearance at the World Cup.

The Black Stars open their campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23. They will then take on Croatia in their final group match on June 27.

As part of their preparations, coach Carlos Queiroz will lead the team in friendly matches against Mexico later this month and Wales on June 2.
