Following Ghana's 2-1 defeat to Nigeria in an international friendly in Morocco, head coach Otto Addo has showered praise on debutant Forson Amankwah, highlighting the young player's impressive performance despite the loss.
Despite conceding two early goals to Cyriel Dessers and Ademola Lookman, Ghana fought back, with Jordan Ayew converting a late penalty in the 95th minute. While the effort fell short of securing a draw, Addo was particularly impressed with Amankwah's debut.
Speaking to Ghana Football Communications after the match, Addo emphasized Amankwah's potential and applauded his solid performance, especially considering he was facing a formidable Nigerian team.
"He was really, really good. I mean he is a young guy, very good positioning, very firm on the ball and solid on the ball. If he would be a little bit more self-conscious in certain situations he could have finished himself I think," Addo remarked.
"But it’s really, really impressive for a young guy to step up against a strong Nigerian team and be so self-conscious with the ball, good positioning, also working hard defensively is really, really good. I think we have someone we can look up to in the coming years," he added.
