Following Ghana's 2-1 defeat to Nigeria in an international friendly, head coach Otto Addo has shed light on his tactical decision to utilize Ernest Nuamah as a false nine during the match.
In the clash at the Stade de Marrakesh, Rangers forward Cyriel Dessers and Ademola Lookman found the net for the Super Eagles, while Jordan Ayew's late penalty provided a consolation goal for the Black Stars.
Addressing his strategy of deploying Nuamah in a false nine role, Addo explained, "In the first half, we had a little bit of problems because I wanted him [Ernest Nuamah] to play like a false nine to drop more into the midfield."
He further elaborated on the challenges faced in controlling the game as desired but praised the adaptability of the squad, especially considering the presence of several new faces and limited training time together.
"In our squad, we have about 8 players who are here for the first time and on the pitch also trained just four days together with the whole new squad because of injuries and for that, I have to say they adapted well and they did well in adapting to the way I want them to play was good," Addo remarked.
Looking ahead, Addo aims to secure his first win as Ghana's coach when they face Uganda's Cranes on Tuesday at the Stade de Marrakesh, hoping for an improved performance from his side.
