Newly appointed Ghana captain Jordan Ayew believes his leadership role with the Black Stars was inevitable, following in the footsteps of his father, Abedi Pele, and his brother, André Ayew.

Speaking to the BBC, the 32-year-old forward described his appointment as a natural step in his career. "It’s just something that was written in the stars," Ayew said.

"We’re just a passionate family. We just want to do our best [and] let the people enjoy our game."

Despite inheriting the captain's armband, the former Crystal Palace striker remains focused on helping Ghana qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

"I’m not someone who thinks about [being] captain or [a] leadership role,” he added. “I just want to enjoy playing football, winning games, scoring goals, and making people happy."

Ayew will lead Ghana as they face Chad and Madagascar in crucial World Cup qualifiers, aiming to secure vital points in their bid for a place at the tournament.
