Vice President of the Ghana Football Association, Mark Addo has explained the importance of Black Stars captain Andre Ayew to the team for the past years and won't be any surprised when he's included in the next squad despite having no club at the moment.
Head coach Chris Hughton is expected to announce his squad in the next few days for the all important fixture against Central African Republic in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.
Black Stars captain Andre Ayew has no club at the moment and his last spell was with Premier League side Nottingham Forest. With the transfer window currently closed in most football countries, it is still unclear as to whether he will be having a club anytime soon or not.
Now, this has sparked a huge hullabaloo in the country with many indigenous football faithful, calling for his exclusion in the next call up with the reason being that, he doesn't have the match fitness to play.
In an interview on Luv FM's Kickoff show, the Black Stars Management Committee Chairman, says Andre Ayew is a phenomenal leader and still deserves a spot in the Black Stars squad despite being club-less for sometime now.
"There have been situations in the past where players who were not affiliated to clubs were invited to the national team and so if he [Dede Ayew] dies get invitation against Central Africa, to me it will not be a big deal."
"Dede Ayew is a phenomenal leader. He fights and leaves everything on the pitch. He's a key part of the team, he is the captain and a leader so we will support whatever decision the technical team will take on him."
The game against Central African Republic is scheduled for September 7, 2023 at the Baba Yara Stadium.
