AJ Auxerre skipper and Ghana international Elisha Owusu has revealed his strong ambition to represent the Black Stars at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
In an interview with Flashscore, Owusu said; “It would be an honour and a big blessing to play the World Cup for my country,” Owusu shared. “But I try not to dwell on it too much. For me, it’s about the process. I take it one day at a time… and leave the rest to God.”
Owusu, who was part of Ghana’s squad at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, views the upcoming tournament as both a significant challenge and an opportunity to make an impact.
For now, though, Owusu’s focus remains grounded. “To stay in the league, give my best for my club and my country, and hopefully be part of the squad that goes to America. But I know it depends on my performances,” he says.
The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside top-tier sides England, Croatia, and Panama, a group that promises intense matches and the chance to shine on football’s biggest stage.
For the 28-year-old midfielder, the World Cup represents more than personal achievement; it is about contributing meaningfully to Ghana’s football legacy.
Since his debut in 2022, Owusu has earned 16 caps for the Black Stars, consistently providing stability and leadership from midfield, even though he has yet to open his scoring account.
