Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has expressed his pride and gratitude after leading Ghana to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking a historic milestone in his managerial career.

The German-trained tactician made history by becoming the first coach to guide the Black Stars to back-to-back World Cup tournaments, following Ghana’s qualification for the 2022 edition in Qatar and now the upcoming global showpiece in North America.

Ghana sealed their place at the 2026 World Cup after topping Group I with 25 points from 10 matches, capping off the campaign with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium, courtesy of a Mohammed Kudus strike.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Addo downplayed personal glory, instead dedicating the success to his players and the nation.

“For me, personally, it’s a big achievement. But to be honest, I think more about us,” he said.
“It’s good for everyone — for the players, for every Ghanaian. It’s not about me, it’s about the team. I’m happy for the players, especially those who haven’t experienced the World Cup before. It’s a great opportunity, and I’m very, very happy for everyone.”

Addo’s achievement further cements his legacy in Ghanaian football history, as he remains the only person to both play for and coach Ghana at the World Cup.

The Black Stars have now qualified for the World Cup on five occasions — 2006, 2010, 2014, 2022, and 2026. They will discover their group-stage opponents on December 5, 2025, when the official World Cup draw takes place in Washington, D.C.
