Hearts of Oak board member Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has voiced strong opposition to the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) recent decision to extend the presidential term limit from two to three terms.

The amendment was approved during the GFA’s 31st Ordinary Congress on Tuesday, where delegates overwhelmingly supported the change. Out of 124 members present, 114 voted in favour, six opposed, and three abstained. The new rules now allow a GFA president to serve up to 12 years, up from the previous maximum of eight.

In an interview with Joy FM, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe described the move as a “shameful act” and hinted at potential legal challenges.

“What has happened today is a very shameful act by the FA. I’m deeply disturbed because it appears people can toy with a constitution and nothing will be done. These things are done for personal interest, and that is exactly what has happened. Legally, this amendment can be challenged on several grounds,” he said.

Known for his outspoken stance on football governance, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe has frequently criticized decisions he believes compromise transparency and good governance in Ghanaian football.

GFA President Kurt Okraku has yet to confirm whether he will pursue a third term under the new rules, but the overwhelming support for the amendment indicates that most stakeholders are comfortable with the extended tenure.
