Head coach of the Black Queens, Nora Hauptle has confessed it's very disappointing they couldn't secure a spot in women football at the 2024 Olympic Games but congratulated Zambia and feels they equally deserve to sail through.
Ghana couldn't make it to the final qualifying round despite holding the Copper Queens to a pulsating 3-3 in Ndola last Wednesday following the narrow defeat they suffered in the first leg in Accra almost a week ago.
Gifty Assifuah, Doris Boaduwaa and Azumah Bugre were all on target for the Queens whiles Zambia also got a brace from their skipper Barbara Banda, coupled with another from Kabange Mupopo.
Reacting to the painful exit, the Swiss tactician admitted it's very hard for them after their inability to qualify but added she cannot blame her players for anything since they gave their all on the pitch but was just not enough to hand them qualification.
"My team was brave, my team was playing football, my team was fighting, I can't blame them at all. Sometimes it's hard. They scored a free kick and the red card in the last minute. We would have loved to go overtime but all in all it's disappointing for us but kudos to Zambia."
Despite their eviction, many a Ghanaian football faithful, were very satisfied and proud with the team's performance and are very hopeful they will patch up all cracks and bounce back stronger very soon.
The Black Queens are expected to return to their various clubs very soon to finish the remainder of the 2023/24 football season and will resume later to prepare for the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations which will be held in Morocco.
