Fred Pappoe, a former vice president of the Ghana Football Association has said it is unfortunate that the Black Stars failed to qualify to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The Black Stars failed to qualify for the Continental showpiece for the first time in 21 years, having secured just three points from their six matches in Group F, which included Angola, Sudan, and Niger.
Speaking to pressmen, Papsay as he is affectionately called stated he wasn't entirely surprised Ghana failed to qualify as the signs were glaring.
“Everyone associated with football is not happy about what has gone on. Ghana will not be part of the assembly of African footballing nations at the AFCON 2025. It’s very unfortunate and I think it is something that causes a lot of pain. My assessment is that it is an unfortunate situation and unfortunate development," he said.
“Of course, it was coming considering our performances in the past two AFCON tournaments. It was something which was clear for all of us to see that things were not going on well with the team. Our performances have not been anything to be proud of in the qualifiers. We saw signs and the signals were clear on the wall so this is not entirely surprising."
Ghana will now shift their focus to the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, as they have a bigger task ahead against Chad and Madagascar in their next two games in the global showpiece qualifiers in March, 2025.
