Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Edwin Simeon Okraku has praised President John Dramani Mahama for his unwavering support and renewed commitment to reviving football across the country.
Okraku, speaking to the media after meeting Education Minister and Karela United owner Haruna Iddrisu, said the government’s recent interventions in sports were beginning to show real progress, most notably Ghana’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“We will work together to follow the agenda of the President [John Mahama], who set out to reset all facets of our country, including football,” Okraku said.
“I think that the recent happenings, his personal commitment to the team, is clearly having a manifestation on the football ecosystem. The Black Stars are back in the Mundial where we belong, and a lot more can be said.”
The Black Stars secured their place at next year’s World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico after edging Comoros 1-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium, sealing their fifth appearance at the global showpiece.
Okraku also highlighted the wider resurgence in Ghanaian football, applauding the University for Development Studies remarkable victory over Brazil’s Paulista University in the men’s football final at the World University Games in China.
He added that the GFA remains committed to complementing the government’s efforts to restore Ghana’s footballing stature both on and off the pitch.
