The Black Stars head coach announced his decision to resign from his role after the West African nation exit from the ongoing World Cup in Qatar.

Otto Addo has opened up on his decision to leave his job at the Black Stars of Ghana after suffering an elimination from the mundial following a defeat to Uruguay on Wednesday evening.

Ghana failed to make it to the 2022 World Cup round of 16 after a 2-0 loss to Uruguay in the final group H game at the Al Janoub Stadium.

Addo in an interview with reporters after the game confirmed his decision to step down as the head coach of Ghana after ten months of being in charge.

According to him, he made an earlier announcement off leaving his job at the Black Stars after the 2022 World Cup to focus on his trainer scout role at Broussia Dortmund.

"I said it in October last year after accepting the assistant coach job [under coach Milovan Rajevac]. It was clear I would stop after the World Cup, even if we were World champions," Addo told reporters in Doha, Qatar.

"At the moment me and my family see our future in Germany. I like my role at Dortmund and I am happy there"

"From the first day I said if we qualified for the World Cup I'd resign afterwards, even if we were World champions,"

Addo was named Ghana's coach in February as replacement for Serbian coach Milovan Rajevac after a disastrous campaign at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

He guided the Black Stars to secure a ticket to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar after eliminating Nigeria in the final play-off games.
