Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has disclosed that the five recently appointed members of the Black Stars’ technical team will not be placed on monthly salaries ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Ghana Football Association bolstered the senior national team’s backroom staff as part of preparations for the global showpiece, adding experienced hands to support the technical bench.

French tactician Alain Ravera and Swedish coach Kim Lars Björkegren have joined as assistant coaches. They are accompanied by Spanish analyst Jose Daniel Martínez Alfonso, psychologist Carlos Lozano Romero, and performance coach Dwayne Peasah Paa Kwesi.

In an interview with Citi Sports, Adams — who doubles as Member of Parliament for Buem — clarified that the appointments are strictly tournament-based and do not include fixed monthly remuneration.

According to him, the new additions will instead receive allowances, per diems, and a portion of appearance fees and bonuses tied to the team’s performance at the World Cup.

“None of them is on a salary,” Adams stressed. “They will benefit from allowances paid to the team, including per diems and winning bonuses. After the World Cup, their contractual arrangement ends.”

He further explained that while appearance fees will be shared, the new technical staff will not receive the full amount allocated to core team members. Adams also singled out Björkegren, noting that his only regular salary remains his role as head coach of the Black Queens.

Ghana will be making their fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup and have been drawn in a challenging Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia.

The Black Stars are scheduled to open their campaign against Panama on June 17 before facing England on June 23. They will wrap up their group-stage fixtures against Croatia on June 27.

After disappointing group-stage eliminations at the 2014 and 2022 tournaments, the four-time African champions are aiming for a stronger showing this summer.

The GFA has also confirmed that Ghana’s squad will camp at Bryant University in the United States for the duration of the tournament as they seek to make a significant impact on the world stage.
