The Ghana Football Association has appointed experienced gaffer Carlos Queiroz as the new head coach of the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
He comes in as replacement for Otto Addo, who was jettisoned after friendly matches against Austria and Germany in the March international window.
The decision was taken by the GFA Executive Council in consultation with key stakeholders, entrusting the experienced Portuguese tactician with the responsibility of leading Ghana on the global stage.
Queiroz arrives with a wealth of international experience, having managed top sides including Real Madrid, Manchester United (as assistant), as well as national teams such as Portugal and Iran.
His World Cup pedigree is well established, having guided South Africa to qualification for the 2002 tournament, led Portugal to the knockout stage in 2010, and managed Iran at both the 2014 and 2018 editions. He has also had coaching stints in Egypt, Oman, Japan, and Qatar.
The veteran coach is expected to immediately begin preparations as Ghana eyes a strong showing at the tournament, which kicks off on June 11, 2026, across Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
Ghana will open their campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, before taking on England and Croatia in the remaining Group L fixtures.
