Ghana's national team coach, Otto Addo, has provided insights into the rationale behind appointing his new technical team members, amidst criticism over their lack of experience.
The 43-year-old, who recently secured a 34-month deal, has enlisted former Black Stars players John Paintsil and Fatawu Dauda, along with Moroccan-German coach Joseph Laumann, to form his new technical staff.
Despite facing scrutiny from the media for their perceived inexperience, Addo defended his choices, citing his familiarity and positive interactions with each member.
“First of all, I knew all of them before the job. I played with John Painstil together. For Fatawu Dauda, I met him in 2014 at the World Cup and it was nice to get together to share ideas and also to fit," he told the Ghana FA website.
"Joe (Joseph Laumann), I know him from Germany and he is absolutely an expert. He has really good eyes for a situation, to react fast but is also very attentive to any kind of thing which is destructive and at the same time attentive to things which can help to develop the group and the team. It’s a very important input from all of them.”
Acknowledging the tangible impact of their collaboration, Addo expressed satisfaction with their contributions, emphasizing the positive influence they've had on his coaching approach.
“So they have given me very, very important inputs from and it’s really, really good to have them. I can feel after the first four days that they have helped me to improve and this is what we want to have.” Otto Addo added.
Joseph Laumann assumes the role of first assistant, followed by John Paintsil as the second assistant, while Fatawu Dauda serves as the goalkeeper's trainer within the technical setup.
As the Black Stars prepare for their second friendly encounter against Uganda at the Stade de Marrakesh, Addo's remarks shed light on the collaborative efforts driving the team forward despite initial skepticism.
