Legendary Ghanaian footballer, Mohammed Polo has appealed to the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, and the Government not to forget its sporting heroes.
The "Dribbling Magician" as he is popularly known was first called-up to play for the Black Stars at age 17. In the 1978 African Cup of Nations where Ghana won its third AFCON title, Polo scored a goal and was listed as a forward in the CAF Team of the Tournament along 3 other Ghanaian players. He played 54 times scoring 20 goals for Ghana national team from 1973 until 1985.
According to Polo, who was also a key player in the Ghana squad that won the 1978 African Cup of Nations held in Ghana, it is imperative for Ghanaian footballers, especially the retired internationals - to be honoured and remembered after contributing their quota to national football development.
The ex Hearts of Oak and Accra Great Olympics left-winger wondered how past heroes in Ghanaian football hemisphere could only be honored when they pass away.
“They are waiting for me to die before they honor me and I’m saying, no, if I die, no, I don’t need anything again.
"I want to be honored now because if I die, I don’t even need it,” Polo said during the “Honoring the Legends” event that took place recently in Accra.
