Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee, Dr Randy Abbey, has revealed that there has been no official contact or indication of interest from Eddie Nketiah, Callum Hudson-Odoi, or Francis Amuzu about representing Ghana.
The speculation surrounding the trio resurfaced after Ghana secured qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup following their win over Comoros earlier this month. All three players were born abroad and are eligible to represent Ghana, with Nketiah and Hudson-Odoi having featured for England, while Amuzu has played for Belgium’s youth teams.
Speaking to Sporty FM, Dr Abbey said he was unaware of any formal approach or commitment from the players.
“Officially, I’m not aware of Eddie Nketiah showing interest in the Black Stars. It’s the same for Callum Hudson-Odoi and Francis Amuzu. I only read about it in the media,” he explained.
Francis Amuzu was previously linked with a switch to Ghana in 2022 but denied reports that he had turned down an invitation. The Anderlecht winger has since reiterated his openness to play for the Black Stars, regardless of timing.
“If it’s for the World Cup, it will be nice,” Amuzu said in an interview with Asempa FM. “If it’s after the World Cup, it’s also nice, I will be happy. It is a dream for me to play for the national team of Ghana.
“I know also that I have to perform well to get a call-up. If it [call-up] comes, good. If it doesn’t come, I have to work harder.”
Dr Abbey’s remarks clarify that, despite ongoing media speculation, the Ghana Football Association has yet to receive any official communication from Nketiah, Hudson-Odoi, or Amuzu, leaving their potential involvement with the Black Stars still open.
