Former Ghana international Dan Quaye has urged goalkeeper Benjamin Asare to remain focused and avoid complacency following his strong performances for the Black Stars.

The 32-year-old shot-stopper received his first national team call-up in March and made an immediate impact, keeping a clean sheet in Ghana’s commanding 5-0 victory over Chad on March 21 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Asare retained his place in goal for Monday’s clash against Madagascar, where he again impressed with another clean sheet in a 3-0 win. His performances have helped Ghana extend their lead at the top of Group I to 15 points.

With head coach Otto Addo confirming Asare as Ghana’s first-choice goalkeeper, Dan Quaye has advised him to stay grounded and continue working hard to reach even greater heights.

“Benjamin Asare deserves to be Ghana’s first-choice goalkeeper. He is experienced and has been in the system for a long time. He played for lower-tier clubs before moving to Great Olympics and Hearts of Oak,” Quaye told Bryt FM.

“We all know the impact local goalkeepers have had on the national team, so I wasn’t surprised by his performance. I was convinced he could deliver when given the opportunity.”

Quaye, however, warned Asare against complacency, urging him to stay disciplined and committed to his training.

“I advise him not to get carried away after these matches. He should remain focused, avoid pride, and keep training hard. If he stays disciplined, I believe he can reach greater heights,” he added.

With Ghana’s World Cup qualifying campaign back on track, Asare’s next test will come in the upcoming qualifiers. All eyes will be on the Hearts of Oak goalkeeper to see if he can maintain his form and cement his place as Ghana’s undisputed No.1.
