Former Black Stars player and coach James Kwesi Appiah, says getting a potential replacement for Asamoah Gyan in the national team at the moment will be very difficult mainly due to how consistent he were during his time

Gyan, has announced his retirement from professional football but still remains Ghana's all-time top scorer with 51 goals from over 100 appearances.

Coach Kwesi Appiah's comment definitely carries weight following his experience with the national team where he's had two spells and still remains as the first local coach to qualify for the FIFA World Cup.

The current Black Stars squad has got lots good players with the likes of Jordan Ayew, Kudus Mohammed, Antoine Semenyo, Inaki Williams, Ernest Nuamah, Kamaldeen Sulemana and a whole lot who are doing great with their various clubs.

However, coach Kwesi Appiah believes Asamoah Gyan currently is irreplaceable looking at the quality he had and how consistent he was adding that his kind is rare and is a generational talent.

"It's a very tough task to replace someone of his calibre and quality. That type of striker and character is not produced that often."

"At this moment in time, you have a player like Kudus and potentially Semenyo, who are playing really well for their clubs. We'd hope they can eventually have that type of level and consistency for Ghana."

James Kwesi Appiah is currently the head coach of Sudan and has qualified them to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations which will be held in Morocco later this year.
