Sports and Recreation Minister-designate Kofi Adams has criticized the practice of national team management committees receiving per diem allowances while players, especially women’s and junior male teams, face delays in theirs.

The issue has been a persistent concern in Ghana, with reports of unequal treatment undermining the motivation and performance of athletes representing the country.

Women’s teams and junior male teams have frequently complained about delays in their allowances, even as management officials are promptly paid.

“I don’t think the national team management committees should pay themselves per diem when the players have not received theirs,” Adams stated in an interview with Kasapa FM.

He emphasized the need to prioritize players, adding, “We must serve the people we are there for before serving ourselves. The current arrangement is unfair and detrimental to team morale.”

Adams’ remarks come as sports administration in Ghana faces increased scrutiny, with calls from stakeholders to address inequities and implement reforms to ensure athletes are treated equitably.
