Newly appointed Black Starlets coach Stephen Frimpong Manso has committed to a comprehensive analysis of Ghana's past shortcomings in an effort to guide the team back to the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) following three failed qualification attempts.
"I’ve been in that same position before. There have been many issues, and on three occasions, we couldn’t qualify. We need to examine those past failures to understand why we haven’t made it," Frimpong Manso told ghanafa.org.
He continued, "From my previous experience, I observed certain things that need to be addressed. I’m determined to rectify them and ensure success this time around."
The Black Starlets, who have won the U-17 AFCON twice and remain the competition's most successful team, last competed at the continental level in 2017, finishing as runners-up.
However, recent setbacks, including a home elimination by Burkina Faso in the last edition, have raised concerns over the team's future.
Frimpong Manso’s challenge is heightened by the need to build on the foundation laid by former coach Laryea Kingston, who revitalized the squad before their disappointing exit.
By drawing on his experience and addressing key challenges, Frimpong Manso hopes to restore the Black Starlets to their former glory and reignite their dominance in African football.
