Ghana’s Ministry of Sports and Recreation has denied claims that it sponsored individuals to travel to Germany for the Black Stars’ international friendlies.
In a statement dated 29 March 2026, the Ministry described the allegations, which followed a viral social media video, as “false and baseless”.
It said the people seen in the video are not known to the Sports Minister, Kofi Adams, and were only briefly met at the airport while boarding a flight.
“The interaction was casual,” the statement explained, adding that such encounters are common when public officials meet citizens in public places.
The Ministry also clarified that the Minister traveled alone on official duty to meet the Black Stars and their technical team ahead of the matches.

“No staff of the Ministry or any delegation accompanied him on this trip,” the statement said.
It stressed that no individual was sponsored, supported or upgraded for the journey by either the Minister or the Ministry.
The statement further noted that no public funds or corporate sponsorship had been used for the friendlies, and no arrangements had been made to assist fans with travel.
The Ministry urged the public to ignore what it described as misleading claims circulating online.
It added that it remains committed to transparency, accountability and the careful use of public resources.
