The National Sports Authority (NSA) has firmly denied claims by the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Assembly regarding the management of the TnA Stadium, amidst rising tensions over control of the facility.

The stadium, constructed by the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation at a cost of over $16 million, was officially handed over to the NSA in August 2024 for ongoing maintenance.

However, within a month, the Municipal Assembly raised concerns over the facility’s upkeep, with Municipal Chief Executive Benjamin Kesse stating that a committee had been formed to manage the stadium, citing operational issues.

In a swift response, NSA Deputy Director General Bawa Majeed dismissed the Assembly’s assertions, emphasizing that the authority remains in full control of the stadium's management.

“They have not taken over, and they cannot take over like that,” Majeed said in an interview with Asempa FM. He clarified that while the NSA is open to collaboration with the Municipal Assembly, the stadium is a public asset and cannot be controlled solely by the Municipality.

This dispute comes at a time when the NSA is facing wider criticism for the poor condition of national stadiums, which recently led to the closure of Baba Yara Stadium by CAF and the dismissal of Dodzie Numekevor as NSA Director General.
