Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has revealed that the country is in the final stages of implementing Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology in domestic football.
Speaking on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at the 31st GFA Congress at Prampram, Okraku emphasized that while the project involves significant financial investment, the GFA is committed to its execution.
“We are at the final stage of rolling out VAR in Ghana. It comes with higher costs, but it’s a direction we are determined to pursue,” he stated.
The introduction of VAR is expected to enhance officiating standards and reduce controversial decisions in the Ghana Premier League and other local competitions.
The initiative aligns with the GFA’s broader strategy to modernize football operations and match international standards, ensuring fair play and greater transparency on the pitch.
