Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito has voiced concern over a growing injury crisis in his squad ahead of their crucial MTN FA Cup semifinal clash against Berekum Chelsea.
The game is scheduled for Sunday, May 11 at 18:00 GMT at the TNA Stadium, with the Porcupine Warriors aiming to win their first FA Cup title since 2017. The prestigious competition now represents Kotoko’s best chance to avoid a trophyless 2024–25 season.
Speaking ahead of the game, Zito stressed the importance of consistency in team selection and admitted that injuries have made preparations more difficult.
“On the field, we’ve been working towards that [winning the FA Cup],” Zito told the media. “My worry is that there are injury situations in the team. I don’t like changes because with consistency, you can go places. When you look at the team, now the injury situation is too big for me to handle.”
Zito is aiming for his second FA Cup title after guiding Dreams FC to glory in the 2022–23 season. His opposite number, Samuel Boadu, is also a seasoned FA Cup winner, having lifted the trophy twice during his tenure with Hearts of Oak.
