Asante Kotoko faced a surprising defeat against bottom-placed Legon Cities, who secured a 2-1 victory at the University of Ghana Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Porcupine Warriors were hoping to climb the league standings, but their ambitions were dashed by a resilient Legon Cities side seeking redemption after a rocky start to the season, which saw them lose five and draw two of their previous matches.

In the opening half, Legon Cities struck first against the odds, with Albert Yeboah scoring in the 23rd minute to give the hosts a surprising lead at halftime, despite Kotoko's dominant possession.

As the second half unfolded, Asante Kotoko began to assert themselves, creating numerous chances but struggling to convert them into goals. Their inability to finish has been a recurring theme this season.

In the 76th minute, Kotoko's Albert Amoah leveled the score by converting a penalty, marking his fifth goal of the season and reigniting hopes for the visitors.

However, just when it looked like the match would end in a stalemate, Legon Cities’ Rahim Abdul made a dramatic late contribution, scoring a late goal that secured the team their first three points of the season.

The defeat marked Asante Kotoko's initial setback in the league, leaving fans and players alike to ponder what went wrong.
