Karela United snatched a dramatic 1–0 away victory over Dreams FC at the Tuba Astroturf on Sunday afternoon, with a last-gasp winner sealing maximum points for the Pride and Passion.
In a match where the hosts dominated much of the proceedings, it was Karela who had the final say as defender Alhassan Ali struck deep into stoppage time to turn the game on its head and silence the home crowd.
Dreams FC started the afternoon on the front foot as they enjoyed the lion’s share of possession and pressing aggressively as they looked to end a three-game winless run that had yielded successive draws. Coach Winfred Dormon’s side moved the ball with confidence as they pinned Karela back for long periods and created a series of half-chances, but a lack of cutting edge proved costly.
Despite seeing less of the ball, Karela United remained calm and disciplined, soaking up pressure and waiting patiently for their moment. That decisive moment arrived in the 90+3rd minute, when 21-year-old Ali popped up to fire home the opener which ultimately was the winner, sparking wild celebrations among the traveling contingent.
The statistics underlined Dreams FC’s control without reward. The hosts finished with 58% possession, 12 shots, four on target, nine corner kicks and picked up one yellow card. Karela United, by contrast, recorded 42% possession, eight shots, four on target, six corners and received two bookings, but crucially made theirs count.
Karela held firm in the closing moments to secure their eighth win of the campaign, a result that lifts them to seventh place on the Premier League table with 31 points after 22 matches.
For Dreams FC, the defeat extends a frustrating run and leaves them with a record of seven wins, five draws and 10 defeats, dropping them to 12th position on the league log with 26 points.
