Asante Kotoko put in a strong first-half performance to earn a comfortable 2–0 away win over Young Apostles in their Matchweek 23 Ghana Premier League game at the Wenchi Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Porcupine Warriors started the game quickly and took control early. In the 6th minute, left winger Johnson Oppong Owusu found space and finished well to give Kotoko an early lead.
Young Apostles were still trying to settle when they suffered another blow. In the 19th minute, defender Claude Shooting Borrtey accidentally scored an own goal under pressure, handing Kotoko a second goal and putting the 'Agya Na Ɔwɔ Tumi' Boys in a difficult position.
Despite going two goals down, Young Apostles showed fight and kept pushing forward, especially in the second half. They applied pressure and looked for a goal, but could not break down Kotoko’s solid defence.
Kotoko remained calm and well organised, defending their lead smartly and limiting the home side’s chances until the final whistle.
The win moves Asante Kotoko up to fourth place on the league table with 38 points. Young Apostles, however, drop to 16th place with 26 points, as they increased their relegation concerns.
