FC Samartex 1996 continued their fine run of form with a commanding 3-1 victory over Basake Holy Stars at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena, stretching their winning streak to three matches.
Fresh from back-to-back wins against Asante Kotoko and Berekum Chelsea, the former champions wasted no time asserting their dominance, racing into a two-goal lead inside the opening 15 minutes.
Akwasi Sarpong opened the scoring just two minutes into the contest with a clinical finish, setting the tone for the hosts. Ten minutes later, Francis Gyetuah doubled Samartex’s advantage, putting the visitors under early pressure.
Holy Stars responded before the half-hour mark, with Benjamin Tweneboah pulling one back to halve the deficit and inject life into the contest.
Both sides created chances in a lively first half, but neither could add to the scoreline, as Samartex went into the break holding a narrow 2-1 lead.
After the restart, Samartex — known as the Timbers — took firm control of proceedings, dominating possession and dictating the tempo of the game. Their sustained pressure eventually paid off late on when Christian Agyenim Boateng found the net to seal the victory.
