Hearts of Oak bounced back to winning ways with a resilient 1–0 victory over Nations FC in matchweek 31 of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League on Sunday afternoon at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex in Abrankese.

An early strike from forward Mawuli Wayo proved the difference for the Phobians, who were forced to dig deep and withstand heavy pressure from the Royals of Abrankese to secure all three points.

Hearts of Oak made a bright and purposeful start, dominating possession in the opening exchanges and pressing high up the pitch as they sought a response to their inconsistent recent run. Their intent paid off in the 10th minute when Wayo found the breakthrough, calmly notching to hand the visitors an early lead.

Coach Didi Dramani’s team then became more compact, focusing on strong defending as Nations FC slowly got into the game. Hearts of Oak stayed well organised and hard to break down, with their main butcherman' Kelvin Osei Asibey very active at the back, keeping Emmanuel Annor and the Nations FC attack under control.

The home side, led by coach Frimpong Manso, responded strongly after the break and were handed a golden opportunity to level matters in the 62nd minute. Captain Razak Simpson took the penalty, but his effort went astray, leaving Nations FC to regret an important missed opportunity.

That moment summed up a frustrating afternoon for Nations FC, who produced the more attacking display but failed to make it count. Nations FC enjoyed 56 percent possession and registered 10 shots, including three on target, yet could not find a way past a determined Hearts of Oak defence.

In contrast, Hearts of Oak were clinical and efficient, managing just two shots in the entire match, with only one on target-the decisive effort from Wayo. They also earned three corner kicks and picked up two yellow cards, reflecting their dogged approach in seeing out the result.

Despite late pressure and sustained attacking waves from Nations FC, the Phobians held firm to record their 12th win of the campaign. The result leaves Hearts of Oak third on the table with 49 points from 30 matches, alongside 13 draws and five defeats.

For Nations FC, the defeat sees them slip to 13th position on the 18-team league table with 38 points, having recorded 12 wins, eight draws and 12 losses so far this season.

While Nations FC may take encouragement from their performance, it was Hearts of Oak who were more clinical in front of goal, and that made the difference in the end.
