BetPawa has committed to investing a minimum of GH¢7 million in elite football competitions in Ghana over the next five seasons, targeting both men's and women's leagues.
The announcement was made by Ntoudi Mouyelo, managing director of Mchezo Limited, which operates BetPawa, during a press conference held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
This investment will be funneled through BetPawa's "locker room bonus" initiative, initially launched for players in the Ghana Premier League. Now, this support package will extend to cover the Women's FA Cup as well, broadening its impact across Ghanaian football.
In its first season (2022/23), the locker room bonus distributed GH¢600,000 to approximately 4,000 players across 17 teams, excluding Asante Kotoko, who opted out. Last season, the bonus was raised from GH¢150 to GH¢400 per player, resulting in GH¢1.3 million paid to roughly 3,000 players.
For the current season, BetPawa plans to expand the bonus structure to include three members of each team’s coaching or technical staff, with each team selecting eligible staff for each match. "By season’s end, we expect to have supported at least 3,500 players with GH¢1.4 million," Mouyelo stated, adding that the cumulative investment will total GH¢7 million over five seasons.
The locker room bonus rewards all players and selected staff on the matchday roster for winning matches, encouraging stronger performances and boosting motivation in Ghana's football leagues.
