Ghana Premier League side Hohoe United have announced their decision to withdraw from the 2025/26 season with immediate effect.

The decision to pull out of the Ghanaian top-flight league comes after an emergency meeting held on Tuesday, April 1, 2026 raising concerns over unfair treatment by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

Hohoe United are battling for survival in the Premier League, sitting in the bottom two with just 30 points from 27 games and also serving a three-match home ban.

The GFA’s disciplinary committee slapped the Premier League newbies with a three-match home ban for attacking officials and players of Medeama SC and Vision FC.

However, the Hohoe-based outfit considers the sanctions from the country’s football governing body as harsh, foul play and poorly timed and they have also raised concerns over poor officiating.

The club’s official statement reads: “The Board of Hohoe United Football Club, after an emergency meeting held today, has arrived at the difficult decision to withdraw the club from the ongoing 2025/26 Ghana Premier League.”

“This decision will be communicated officially to the Ghana Football Association."

Hohoe United will play only one of their remaining seven matches at their home venue, with six fixtures scheduled away from Hohoe, even in cases where they are nominally designated as the home side.
