Former Ghana Football Association vice president, George Afriyie, is set to be appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of Asante Kotoko in the coming days, Kickgh.com can exclusively report.
The yet-to-be announced board of Asante Kotoko, led by Mr. Kwasi Osei Ofori and Dr. Kofi Amoa-Abban, has settled on the veteran football administrator to steer the day-to-day administration of the Ghanaian club.
As Kickgh.com earlier reported, the Interim Management Committee (IMC) will be dissolved by the life patron and owner of Asante Kotoko, His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, next month after three years.
A new board has been constituted to take over the management of the Ghana Premier League powerhouse from the IMC chaired by Nana Apinkrah Akwasi Awua.
Asante Kotoko has been without a substantive Chief Executive Officer (CEO) since the removal of Nana Yaw Amponsah by the club in 2023.
Before the appointment of Nana Yaw Amponsah, Afriyie was strongly linked with the Asante Kotoko CEO job; however, he stated his unreadiness to assume the role due to other commitments in an official statement.
Afriyie is prominent in the Ghanaian football space, having managed Swedru All Blacks, Liberty Professionals, and defunct Division One League club, Suburbia Sporting Club.
His bid to lead the Ghana Football Association as president was unsuccessful in 2019 after losing to Kurt Okraku.
