Former Ghana Football Association Vice President George Afriyie says no player is guaranteed a place in the Black Stars squad.
He made the comment after reports that European-born players, including Callum Hudson-Odoi of Nottingham Forest and Eddie Nketiah of Crystal Palace, may choose to play for Ghana after earlier rejecting call-ups.
Ghana used 46 players in 10 World Cup qualifying matches, but only 26 players can be selected for the final squad, which must be announced by June 1.
“Nobody is a permanent member of the Black Stars. The national team is there so that anytime a coach feels this player can help the cause of the Black Stars, he must go for him and nothing must stop him,” Mr Afriyie told Graphic Sports.
He also raised concerns about fairness to players who helped Ghana qualify but might miss out on the World Cup.
“Not all the players who played in the qualifiers can play in the World Cup, so are we also being fair to those players who played during the qualifiers but won’t be part of the World Cup?” he asked.
The Black Stars will make their fifth World Cup appearance and have been placed in Group L with Panama national football team, England national football team and Croatia national football team.
Ghana will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17, play England on June 23, and face Croatia on June 27.
In preparation for the tournament, the team will regroup in March for friendly matches against Austria national football team and Germany national football team, before ending their preparations with a match against Mexico national football team in May.
The GFA has confirmed that the team will stay at Bryant University in the United States during the tournament.
