On August 27, 2024, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), officially inaugurated the new standard artificial football pitch at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence.
The pitch, funded by Betpawa, marks the completion of phase one of the project, which is crucial for advancing football development in Ghana. The early-morning ceremony preceded the 30th Congress of the GFA, highlighting the association’s commitment to enhancing facilities for the sport.
Okraku emphasized the importance of the new pitch for the growth of Ghanaian football. "This modern astro turf is a significant step in our developmental drive," he said.
The project’s next phase will include the addition of a changing room, VIP stand, and an extra stand for fans.
The Betpawa Park project was initiated about a year ago, with Okraku and Betpawa shareholder Oluwatosin Ajibade cutting the sod for construction. The comprehensive master plan for the GFA Technical Centre includes a mini stadium for international matches, a hotel facility, an administration block, and various training pitches for beach soccer, futsal, and traditional football.
The commissioning event was attended by Vice-President Mark Addo, Executive Council members, and Congress delegates.
