Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has criticised the standard of the Ghana Premier League, saying the overall level of play remains poor.

The Accra Hearts of Oak board member made the remarks in an interview with Graphic Sports, where he expressed concern about the current state of the domestic game.

“I have been monitoring our local league, and the standard of play remains very low,” he told Graphic Sports.

Nyaho-Tamakloe's comments add to growing concerns about the quality and competitiveness of the league, which was once seen as a strong platform for producing many of Ghana’s top football talents.

The veteran football administrator said the problem is not only about performances on the field but also about deeper problems in the local game. He pointed to poor player development, declining coaching standards, and inconsistent refereeing as major issues.

Nyaho-Tamakloe warned that without urgent and well-planned reforms, the league could continue to decline in both local support and international reputation.

His comments come at a time when Ghanaian clubs have found it hard to perform well in recent African competitions, leading to new questions about the strength of the local league.

He added that restoring trust in the league will require long-term investment in youth football, improved facilities, and stronger rules to maintain professional standards.
