Young Apostles assistant coach, Hussein Abubakar, has praised his side’s spirit after they fought back to earn a 1-1 draw against Hohoe United in their second outing of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.

In a match played under the humid conditions of the Hohoe Stadium on Saturday, the home side seized the opportunity early in the second half when Abbas Ganiu pounced to put Hohoe United ahead.

But the Apostles of Ghana football, who had looked short of fluency in the opening stages, responded with determination. However, their persistence was rewarded when Richmond Opoku struck with a composed finish to bring the visitors level.

Speaking after the game, Abubakar revealed how a tactical tweak helped swing the match back in his team’s favour.

“I said we were not going to leave here without a point,” Abubakar reflected afterwards.

“So, when we conceded, I made a tactical switch in attack, and that helped us to score. I’m happy with the result.”

The draw keeps Young Apostles sitting 14th in the league table with just a single point, as they are still chasing their first win of the season after falling to Medeama on the opening day, but despite that, Abubakar insists his players performance shows the team’s fighting spirit and believes they can build on it.

Young Apostles return to action this Saturday with a home match against Dreams FC, where they will look to turn their resilience into a first three points of the season.
