Ghana Premier League club Accra Lions have officially announced that Anyars Ibrahim Tanko has stepped down as head coach of the club.
The former Black Stars man is stepping aside to focus on other projects and so agreed to end his collaboration with the 'Yen Nyinaa Dea' side.
Tanko had been with the club, which is co-owned by German international and Ballon d'Or winner Lothar Matthäus, for two seasons.
Last season he guided the Capital based side to finish second on the 18-team Ghana Premier League.
Tanko’s leadership was pivotal in the club's growth, earning him respect for his commitment and contributions to the team’s development.
Meanwhile in a successful transition, Tanko has handed over coaching duties to German trainer Rainer Kraft, who returns to the club with extensive experience.
Kraft previously guided Accra Lions to promotion into the Ghana Premier League during his first stint from 2019 to 2021, and he is knowledgeable in the club’s mission of dveloping talent and competing at the highest level.
“While I am stepping away to focus on other projects, my bond with the team remains strong, and I will always be available to support the club,” Tanko stated.
Accra Lions management expressed profound gratitude for Ibrahim Tanko's invaluable contributions, accentuating that the door remains open for his future return.
