Asante Kotoko striker Kwame Opoku has played down the individual praise following his standout performances this season, insisting he is simply doing his part to help the team.
The 25-year-old returned to the Porcupine Warriors midway through the 2024/25 campaign and made an immediate impact, scoring twice in the final of the MTN FA Cup to lead Kotoko to a 2-1 victory over Golden Kick on Sunday at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
His contribution didn’t go unnoticed, with many fans and pundits hailing him as the club’s talisman. In addition to his FA Cup heroics, Opoku netted nine goals and provided two assists in 17 Ghana Premier League appearances.
Speaking to 3Sports after the final, Opoku appreciated the support but remained humble about his role.
“I see myself like I’m just a normal player that I have to help my club, so it’s not anything special,” he said.
Reflecting on the season, the striker added, “If I started the league, maybe I would have done better.”
Kwame Opoku is expected to be a key figure for Asante Kotoko next season as the club prepares for its CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
