Richard Boadu 'Agadas,' the captain of Asante Kotoko, has shared his sentiments about leading one of Ghana and Africa's most successful football clubs.
The 25-year-old midfielder joined Kotoko in 2021 from Medeama and achieved immediate success, winning the Ghana Premier League in his debut season with the Porcupine Warriors.
Following the departure of former captain Abdul Ganiyu Ismail, Boadu swiftly rose to the position of captain. Throughout his two-year tenure at the club, he has made 60 appearances and scored two goals for the Ghanaian giants.
Boadu expressed his joy at being appointed as the captain of Kotoko, acknowledging that being a player for the club is no easy task. He emphasized the significance of this achievement, stating, “Being a Kotoko player itself is not easy. So, I was very happy when I was appointed captain of the side. It’s now in the records,” Boadu told Kumasi-based Kessben Sports.
He also recognized that being a captain entails additional responsibilities and pressure. However, as a focused player, Boadu embraced the challenge, aiming to demonstrate his abilities and make significant contributions to the success of Kotoko.
“At some point it’s scary because it comes with additional responsibility and pressure. As a player who was focused on handling that responsibility, I was okay with it because I wanted to do something to prove that I could do something great for Kotoko,” he added.
Assuming the captaincy role is not without its apprehensions, but Boadu's determination to handle the responsibility speaks to his desire to achieve greatness for the club.
