Ex-Ghana international Laryea Kingston says he feels disappointed of his generation failure to end the Black Stars' trophy drought.
Kingston, who was a regular figure in the senior national team of Ghana between 2005 and 2010, in an interview with Sienu TV expressed that the talents of his teammates at the Black Stars should have at least won a major trophy for the West African nation.
Ghana has been chasing for its fifth Africa Cup of Nations title since emerging winners of the continental competition in 1982.
He stressed that the Black Stars team was a formidable side in Africa and was one of the teams highly tipped to clinch the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations hosted in Ghana.
However, the team led by French tactician Claude De Roy finished the tournament with bronze after losing to Cameroon in the semi-final game.
"Every player aims to win something [with the national team] and with the kind of football we played that time, we should have won something, especially the 2008 AFCON which Ghana hosted," Laryea told Sienu TV in an exclusive interview.
“We were very close, we still look back and we say we should have won something," he added
Laryea also attributed their failure of ending the Black Stars trophy drought to constant missing of key players ahead of major tournaments.
Currently, Laryea is the assistant coach of the Ghana U17 male team. He previously worked at Right to Dream Academy.
