Ghanaian football legend Michael Essien holds the belief that Olympique Lyonnais provides an ideal platform for young players to nurture their careers.

During his own illustrious career, the former Ghana international enjoyed a successful period with the French powerhouse before making his move to Chelsea in 2005.

As reports circulate about fellow Ghanaian talent Ernest Nuamah's imminent transfer to the Ligue 1 club, it seems likely that the 18-year-old will tread a path similar to that of Essien, now serving as an assistant coach at FC Nordsjaelland.

Reflecting on his experience, Essien shared in an interview, as quoted by 3 Sports, “It moved me from being a young player to a senior player at a big club, so, it helped me grow up and feature on the big stage," said Essien in an interview, as quoted by 3 Sports. “I gained a lot of experience in a short space of time,” he added.

During his tenure, Essien secured two Ligue 1 titles and stood as a pivotal contributor to Lyon's triumphs in the early 2000s.

Essien further emphasized, “I think the set-up of the club as a whole and the longevity of the president [has helped],” he said, “there has been continuity and they also know how to develop good players. The two titles and Champions League games will be my favourite memories.”

Meanwhile, Ernest Nuamah has successfully completed his medical assessments and is poised to be unveiled as a fresh addition to the Lyon roster later on Tuesday.
