According to Tony Aubynn, chairman of the Medeama SC board of directors, the era of Hearts of Oak and Kotoko's dominance in Ghanaian football is now a thing of the past.
Aubynn believes that the traditional powerhouses' reign has come to an end, marking a significant shift in the landscape of Ghanaian football.
Medeama, under Aubynn's leadership, recently secured their first-ever Ghana Premier League title, surpassing not only the competition from Aduana FC and Bechem United but also the historically dominant clubs Hearts of Oak and Kotoko.
In an interview, Aubynn stated, “The days of the dominance of these clubs (Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko) are over and this is a reflection of football globally,” he told Joy News.
“I mean who ever thought Saudi Arabia will beat Argentina? And many other surprises that are coming up in football.
“Who ever thought the Black Galaxies would be playing Madagascar and Madagascar will beat Ghana?”
Aubynn's comments highlight the changing dynamics in Ghanaian football, with Medeama's success serving as evidence that underdogs can now challenge and prevail against the once-dominant forces of Hearts of Oak and Kotoko.
