Asante Kotoko Sporting Club have voiced strong dissatisfaction with the slow progress of the ongoing trial into the death of their supporter, Nana Frimpong Pooley, more than seven months after the tragic incident.

It has been 226 days since Pooley was stabbed to death during Kotoko’s Premier League fixture against Nsoatreman FC on February 2, yet the case remains unresolved.

Eight individuals are currently standing trial, but the matter continues to drag on in court. Kotoko’s Communications Director, Sarfo Duku, expressed the club’s frustration, urging authorities to expedite the process.

“The matter is pending in court; it is for the state because this is a criminal matter,” Duku told JoySports.

“Last Wednesday, we were in court and the matter was adjourned to the 9th of October. All that we are waiting for is for the processes to be sped up. You cannot put any blame on anybody because of the nature of our judicial system. It has always been slow.”

The tragic incident cast a shadow over last season’s Premier League campaign, which was halted for over a month as stakeholders deliberated on new security and safety protocols. In the aftermath of the violence, Nsoatreman FC withdrew from the competition entirely.

Kotoko eventually finished the season in third place and have since begun the new campaign on a positive note, securing a 1-0 away victory over Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park.
