Head coach of Medeama Sporting Club, Ibrahim Tanko, has confirmed that the team has begun laying the groundwork for a strong push in next season’s Ghana Premier League, following their inability to compete for the current title.
With two matches remaining in the 2024/25 campaign, Medeama sit sixth on the league table—10 points adrift of leaders Nations FC—effectively ruling them out of title contention.
Speaking to Medi TV ahead of Medeama’s Week 33 clash against Asante Kotoko, Coach Tanko acknowledged the improved form of his team since taking charge but emphasized that all eyes are now on preparing for the 2025/26 season.
“The performance of the team has improved since I took over,” he stated. “It’s important for me to start planning ahead. In the remaining two matches, we’ll give our best to win, but the league title race is over for us. After this weekend, it will be clearer who wins the title.”
Tanko’s Medeama side will face Asante Kotoko on Sunday, June 1, in a match set for 3:00 p.m. at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
The Tarkwa-based club, reigning champions of the 2022/23 season, are now aiming to regroup and launch a stronger title challenge in the next campaign under Tanko’s leadership.
