Ghanaian attacker James Ampofo has finalized a transfer to Norwegian premier division side Strømsgodset IF, committing to a three-and-a-half-year contract after successfully completing his medical on Wednesday.
The 21-year-old forward arrives from second-division outfit Raufoss IL, where he has been in impressive form this term, netting six goals and providing one assist in 12 matches.
His displays attracted interest from several European clubs, but Strømsgodset moved swiftly to secure his services ahead of competitors in Norway and Belgium.
Ampofo first gained acclaim as part of Ghana’s U20 team that lifted the 2021 Africa U20 Cup of Nations trophy in Mauritania. He made his debut during the semi-final win over Cameroon, earning praise for his high work rate and offensive threat.
The transfer marks a significant progression in Ampofo’s career as he steps into top-level football for the first time. Strømsgodset regarded him as a key addition to their attacking lineup, bringing speed, and scoring ability.
He began his football journey with Koforidua Semper Fi in Ghana before moving to Greece to play for AO Episkopi Rethymnou.
