The Black Stars skipper has revealed that he and his teammates are not eyeing for only defeating Uruguay but to make it out of the Group H of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Al Sadd attacker Andre Ayew says the dream of the current Ghana team is to make the West African nation proud at the global showpiece.
Ghana and the entire African continent suffered heartbreaking moments during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa after being knockout of the tournament by Uruguay in the quarter-final stage.
The deciding moments of the match came late in the dying embers after the Black Stars were handed a penalty after a Luis Suarez handball late in extra-time – an advantage which was missed by Asamoah Gyan, with the West African nation going on lose on penalties.
The Black Stars will face Uruguay in this World in their second group game and Salisu is part of those calling for revenge against the South American side.
“Football’s not about taking revenge. We simply want to win and make our country proud,” Ayew told FIFA+
“It will be our last group game, so I just hope whatever result we get is enough to make it through to the next round. We have to focus on the here and now – what happened before is irrelevant today.”
“We have to do our best to make the continent proud, because playing the World Cup is actually for the whole of Africa, not just Ghana alone. And that’s really all we intend to focus on”
Ghana is pitted in Group H of the 2022 FIFA World Cup alongside 2016 European Portugal, Asian giants South Korea and two-time world champions Uruguay.
Ghana will open their 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign with Portugal in Group H opener before playing against South Korea and Uruguay.
