Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has expressed strong belief that the Black Stars can replicate their historic 2010 FIFA World Cup performance when the tournament is staged across the United States, Canada, and Mexico next year.

Ghana have been drawn in Group L, where they will come up against Panama, England, and Croatia in what promises to be a highly competitive group.

The Black Stars returned to the World Cup at Qatar 2022 after missing out on the 2018 edition in Russia but exited at the group stage. Despite that disappointment, Asante Twum remains optimistic about Ghana’s chances in the upcoming tournament, insisting the team is capable of making a deep run.

Speaking in an interview with Akoma FM, he stated that the Black Stars’ primary target is to progress beyond the group stage and challenge for a place in the latter rounds of the competition.

“Our target for the World Cup is to qualify from the group stage and be competitive. We want to fight, we have the quality, and we believe we can match our quarter-final appearance—and possibly go even further,” Asante Twum said.

He also disclosed that the technical team has been strengthened following the Qatar World Cup, revealing that head coach Otto Addo has requested additional reinforcements to support the team’s ambitions.

According to Asante Twum, the GFA is actively working to finalize these additions, although he declined to reveal specific names due to existing contractual obligations.

“After the Qatar 2022 World Cup, we strengthened the technical team. The coach has requested some new additions, and the FA is currently working on them. However, the individuals involved are under contract with their respective employers, making it difficult to disclose names at this time,” he explained.

Asante Twum further confirmed that key logistical details, including the team’s camping base, will be announced in the first week of February. He added that the provisional squad is expected to be unveiled in April, with the final squad to be named by June 1.

Ghana will open their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, face England in Boston, and conclude the group stage against Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia, as the Black Stars aim to recapture their 2010 magic on the world stage.
