Ex-Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan applauds Andre Ayew's stewardship as captain of the national team, the Black Stars, despite mixed tournament outcomes.
Ayew, appointed skipper in 2019 during Kwesi Appiah's tenure as head coach, faced initial scrutiny, especially with Gyan still actively participating in matches.
Gyan, however, acknowledges Ayew's leadership qualities, citing his firsthand experience of Ayew's contributions both on and off the field during their time together in the Black Stars camp.
Recognizing Ayew's efforts for the team, Gyan notes that although the outcomes under Ayew's captaincy haven't always met expectations, Ayew has demonstrated resilience and commitment to the role.
"Andre is a good leader. I have played with him and been with him at Black Stars camp," he said on Asempa FM.
"With some of the things he does for the team, he has been good so far. "It is a different era but it has been good so far," he added.
Despite the Black Stars' early exits in major tournaments, including the 2019 AFCON in Egypt and subsequent editions in Cameroon and Ivory Coast, as well as their World Cup journey in Qatar, Gyan maintains a positive outlook on Ayew's captaincy, underscoring the challenges of leading the team in a dynamic era of football.
