The Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced its verdict on the protest filed by Aduana Stars FC against Asante Kotoko SC in January.
Aduana Stars filed a complaint to the country's football governing body against Asante Kotoko for fielding an unqualified player in the match-week ten of the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season at the Nana Agyemang Badu I Park in Dormaa.
In Aduana Stars' petition to the GFA, Nicholas Mensah who started the game was accused of not being ineligible to feature for the Porcupine Warriors.
Aduana Stars filed the protest under the suspicion that the player in question — Nicholas Mensah — does not have the required certification for a change in name.
The player who now identifies himself as Joshua Kwame Rhule was christened, Louis Mensah, but has undergone a change of name on a different occasions – twice recognized in football.
However, the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana FA has dismissed Aduana Stars' petition of punishing Asante Kotoko for an engagement in illegal registration of the player.
In the ruling, it was stated that Mensah's former club Dumasua Delsanco FC are liable for the illegal registration and have been refered to the GFA Prosecutor.
Mensah has also been charged and handed an indefinite suspension (ban) from football after his license as a player has been revoked by the Ghana Football Association.
The 20-year-old joined Asante Kotoko on a thee-year deal from lower-tier side Dumasua Delsanco FC prior to the start of the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season for an undisclosed fee.
